Ophthalmology

At Dutchess Ambulatory Surgical Center, we provide the highest level of care with the most state-of-the-art equipment and technology. Several types of surgeries are performed at our center including cataract surgery, eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty) for drooping lids and glaucoma surgery.

Our ophthalmologists are highly trained and experienced cataract surgeons. They perform cataract surgery in the comfort and convenience of our ambulatory surgery center. For most patients, they are able to use a “no patch-no stitch-no needle” technique of cataract surgery. With our cataract surgeons, the entire process usually only requires a couple of hours of your time from start to finish. Technology such as a Femtosecond Laser is used for a bladeless, more precise incision, ORA/Verify which calculates a more exact measurement for your replacement lens and specific intra-op medications to allow for “dropless” post operative care.

LenSx Technology
As one of the very first ophthalmology practices in the northeast region to utilize the state-of-the-art LenSx® femtosecond laser for bladeless cataract surgery, we are proud to be at the forefront of providing our patients with the most advanced surgical methods available under the unparalleled expertise of our ophthalmologists.

Benefits of LenSx Technology

In general, cataract surgery is a technically complex procedure that requires exceptional surgical skill and medical experience on behalf of your healthcare professionals. By combining the surgical proficiency of our eye doctors with advanced LenSx® laser technology, we can more predictably provide a positive experience for all of our patients.

The main benefits of using the LenSx® laser system include:
•Improved precision and accuracy – With a real-time computerized imaging system to guide the laser during the surgery, a more precise circular incision around the cataract can be achieved, improving accuracy during placement of the intraocular lens implant and facilitating a greater likelihood of clear vision.
•Increased safety and more efficient recovery time – Because the LenSx® laser pre-softens the cataract, the use of ultrasound energy to remove the cataract lens is minimized, which reduces the chance of thermal injury to tissues inside the eye and improves recovery period.
•Simultaneous astigmatism correction – Using the LenSx® laser instead of making a manual incision with a surgical blade, astigmatism can be simultaneously corrected during the time of cataract surgery to lessen the needs for glasses afterward.

Our LenSx® femtosecond laser system is unquestionably the most technologically advanced option for our cataract patients.

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty is a procedure that refers to the removal of excess skin from the eyelids. Eyelid surgery may be considered medically necessary if your vision is being compromised due to sagging or drooping lids. If excess skin is merely a cosmetic concern and you wish only to improve your appearance, your blepharoplasty will not be considered medically necessary and will be more aptly performed at a cosmetic surgery facility that can better address your unique cosmetic concerns.

Glaucoma

Several types of procedures are used to reduce the level of glaucoma patients may be experiencing. Your physician will advise you of the options available.
